Contudo, por
motivos que desconheço ao certo, este bar foi encerrado muito recentemente, e
por isso, em vez da análise inicial que tinha previsto, decidi que era melhor
fazer um tributo em sua homenagem, de modo a perpetuá-lo para gerações futuras
ou pessoas que nunca chegaram a saber sobre a existência do mesmo.
ENG: To begin my new blog category, “Gaming in
Portugal”, I had the goal of doing a very positive analysis of one of my favourites
bars from Faro and show some of the photos that I took during two of their events.
The name of this bar was FaroWest, a lounge of videogames and E-Sports that
existed in Faro and that became a lot viral since the respective project had
been launched.
However, for reasons that I don’t know for certain, this
establishment was closed quite recently, and because of that, instead of the
initial analysis that I planned, I decided that it was best to do a tribute in
its honour, to perpetuate it for future generations or to people that never
managed to know about its existence.
PT: FaroWest tratava-se de um Cyber Café cuja
temática central baseava-se bastante em PC Gaming, mas isto não significava que
o mundo das consolas ficasse de parte. Aliás, o estabelecimento possuía também
algumas consolas, nomeadamente, a PS2 e a PS4.
Contudo, apesar
de a PS4 ser a mais recente, tenho que dar mais destaque à Playstation 2, pois
através dela pude experienciar uma grande coleção de jogos Guitar Hero, juntamente
com o seu equipamento que o bar tinha disponível.
Cada utilizador podia criar uma conta própria nos PC’S do FaroWest para aceder à sua conta Steam e jogar todos os jogos que possuía. Entretanto estes PC’s de grande qualidade também já costumavam vir com jogos pré-instalados, como por exemplo, Overwatch; League of Legends ou CS:GO.
ENG: FaroWest was a Cyber Café which thematic involved
a lot around PC Gaming, but this didn’t mean that the world of consoles stayed
behind. Even because, the establishment owned two consoles, namely, the PS2 and
the PS4.
Nonetheless, despite the
PS4 being more recent, I must give more spotlight to the Playstation 2, as through
this console I could experience the big collection of Guitar Hero games,
together with its equipment that the bar had available.
Each user could create a personal account in FaroWest PC’s, access to his Steam’s
account and play all the games that it owned. However, these PC’s of high
performance usually also had pre-installed games, for example,
Overwatch; League of Legends or CS: GO.

PT: As cartas “Magic” ou “Yu-Gi-Oh” eram outro dos
aspetos que era predominante neste bar. Muitos jogadores encontravam-se lá,
especialmente nas sextas-feiras, para jogar por diversão ou para participar em
torneios que eram ocasionalmente realizados.
Nestes torneios (tanto deste género ou de E-Sports)
havia sempre prémios especiais para ganhar no final.
Para quem não sabia jogar “Magic”, também
podiam aprender com ajuda de um instrutor e ainda receber um baralho grátis
para iniciantes.
Outra curiosidade era que em todos os fins
de semana realizavam-se um evento com jogos de tabuleiro, onde existia as mais
variadas opções de escolha.

The “Magic” and “Yu-Gi-Oh” cards were other of the aspects that were predominant in
this bar. Many players would gather there, especially in fridays, to play for
fun or to join tournaments that were occasionally made.
In these
tournaments (either of this genre or of E-Sports) there were always special
prizes to win in the end.
For those
who didn’t know how to play “Magic”, they could learn with help of an
instructor and also gain a free set of cards for beginners.
Another
curiosity is that in every weekend they would organize a board games event,
where there was a big variety of options to choose from.

PT: O FaroWest disponibilizava dois menus
específicos para comida ou bebida que, em caso de alergias, podiam ser
modificados. Estes menus também podiam ser servidos quando os consumidores estavam
a jogar tanto nos PC’s como nas consolas.
ENG: FaroWest also had two specific menus for food or
drinks that, in case of allergies, could be modified. These menus could also be
served while the clients where playing on the PC’s or in consoles.
PT: Este Cibercafé era conhecido por realizar
diversos eventos que incluíam festas temáticas relacionadas com as épocas em
que ocorressem ou que se inserisse com a cultura Geek em si. Estes eventos continham
adereços, comida, músicas e muitas atividades que caracterizavam bem o
tema escolhido, e que, para além disto, dava a oportunidade de todos os clientes poderem fazer
cosplay das personagens que mais gostassem.
ENG: This Cybercafé was known for organizing events that included parties related with seasonal themes in which they occurred or that were inserted with the Geek culture itself. These events had decoration, food, music and lots of activities that portrayed well the theme chosen, and that, further this, would give the opportunity for all the clients to wear cosplay of the characters they liked the most.

PT: Neste local, conheci as pessoas mais incríveis
que partilham os mesmos hobbies que eu e criei muitas amizades que vão ficar
recordadas para sempre.
Todos os momentos que passei lá foram
cheios de diversão, pois finalmente tive a hipótese de sair de casa e jogar com
verdadeiros jogadores ao meu lado, por isso tenho muito que agradecer a todos
os responsáveis pela criação deste bar e a todos os que contribuíram para o
mesmo. Como muitas pessoas, também desejo que um dia o FaroWest volte a reaparecer
pela cidade de Faro, seja com o mesmo nome ou até com outro, e que, acima de
tudo, possa trazer de volta todas estas experiências boas que tive e que
partilhei convosco ao escrever este tributo.

In this place, I’ve met the most amazing people who shared the same hobbies as
me and created lots of friendships that will be remembered forever.
All of the
moments that I’ve spent there were filled with fun, because I finally had the
chance of getting out of home and play with true gamers by my side, for that I
have lots of thanks to say to all those who were responsible for the creation
of this bar and for those who contributed to the same cause. As lots of
people, I also wish that one day FaroWest will reappear in the city of Faro, be
it with another name or even the same, and that, above all, it can bring back
all these good experiences that I had and shared with you all while writing
this tribute.
